LANSDALE – Making the scary transition into high school was nothing compared to what North Penn freshman Bryce Mengel dealt with on Monday. With the defending state champs’ playoffs and league title hopes on the line against the defending league champs in Pennridge, the young righty pitched like a senior leader and quieted the Rams.
Coach Bob McCreary and Kevin Manero have been impressed with what the freshman has added to the Knights this season, whose one glaring question entering the season was replacing the two starters that helped them win a state title.
Mengel has been everything they could have asked for and more and he scattered seven hits, allowing only one unearned run, in his complete game over the Rams to improve his record to 4-0 and drop his earned run average below one run.

Volleyball: Jacoby leads Pennridge past Souderton
May 04, 2010
PERKASIE – Souderton’s Luke Pinto and Pennridge’s Austin Jacoby lead their respective volleyball teams in more ways than one. Their skills are undeniable, their leadership is unquestioned, and their passion is unmatched. The seniors captains were amped to square off on Monday in a battle of the top two teams in the Continental Conference. Jacoby’s uncanny instincts and highlight reel play led the Rams over the Pinto’s maturing Indians 3-1 on senior night at Pennridge.
The Rams (13-0) came into Monday with a league win streak approaching 40 and Jacoby was not let that come to a halt against the Indians (9-3). Jacoby spent the night slamming balls into the court, saving points, and making big blocks. He knew he was in a groove and when the Rams dropped the second game 26-24, he took matters into his own hands. The outside hitters compiled 22 kills, 12 digs, and three blocks on the night.

HILLTOWN – The “one game at a time” cliché applies to the Faith Christian baseball team, but they cannot wait to get another crack at their first district playoff win in school history. The Lions continued to race through the regular season with a convincing, 17-1 win over Calvary Baptist on Thursday.
With their record improving to 10-0 on the season, the Lions’ confidence to capture that elusive playoff win rises.
The Lions refuse to let a lesser team take the diamond against them and pull off the upset. As much as they are anticipating the postseason, each game is a chance to fine tune their skills. Even with the winless Warriors coming to Hilltown Civic Field, the Lions showed no letdown and came out swinging.

PERKASIE – Both the Pennridge and Souderton girls’ lacrosse teams have played enough games at this point to know what they need to do to come away with a win. Entering Tuesday at 2-2 and tied for third place in the league, the Indians implemented the tactics and rocked the Rams, 17-6.
It has been no secret that in the three games the Indians lost this year, they were unable to come back from a slow start. In the first five minutes, the Indians scored six goals and were well on their way to improving their record to 8-3 overall on the season. Liz Mower and Danielle Notvest led the offensive attack.
