Editorial: Let’s create a newspaper that reflects our community

May 04, 2010

The News-Herald was recently selected to be one of only two newspapers in the Journal Register Company, our parent company, to participate in the Ben Franklin Project – an idea that turns community journalism on its head.

To launch the project, we held a community town hall meeting at the Sellersville Theater April 27, but for those of you that weren’t able to make it: we know what you’re thinking about this Ben Franklin Project deal, which can basically be summed up in one word: “Huh?”

Letter: Perkasie Borough should have reached out further on trash issue

May 04, 2010

To the Editor:

This is my letter to Perkasie Borough because I do not think they really have a finger on the pulse of the borough.

To whom it may concern:

I am writing in regards to the recent borough decision to implement a $35 trash collection fee to offset an $119,000 budget gap in the Pay-As-You- Throw trash program as indicated in the 2010 spring news letter. In the news letter, it is mentioned that dozens of residents were present at a February 5th meeting and that the overall sediment of that meeting was used to develop the current resolution. The letter also indicates that 10% of borough residents do not participate in the trash program but still take advantage of recycling and curbside bulky trash item pickup.
